One of my beloved friend will be leaving soon for UK for her masters degree. Thus begins our farewell party that would be covered in today’s post.
It wasn’t a big ‘party’, but rather a small yet intimate ‘gathering’. Following proper protocols, we should be giving a surprise for her. On the contrary, she was the one who gave us a surprise with her sweet minute details in the decor.
Everyone was given a seating chart labeled with name cards. As if not enough, she also gave everyone personal message, hand-written one by one behind those cards. What lies behind the card shall not be disclosed for it was very personal indeed! 😉
The small party was held at Hong Kong Cafe (HKC), Sarinah. The branch here was the largest one there is, occupying one building for itself.
HKC offers a selection of Dim sum at affordable prices, ranging from IDR19,500 to IDR24,000++. Even though the shrimp used tastes like its frozen, on their defense, given the price offered, you can’t really compare to the more upper-end Dim Sum restaurants. Regardless, overall it tastes decent.
The Spring Roll was quite nice, it’s very crispy and savory, with plenty of filling inside.
Special Baked Rice – IDR63,000++
Hong Kong Cafe (HKC) is well-known for its baked rice/spaghetti. I’ve visited HKC several times already so I’ve pretty much tasted 75% of their baked rice/spaghetti variation. Everything was pretty similar, with differences in toppings and creaminess level only.
The Special Baked Rice have all the toppings inside – chicken, fish, seafood. It was very creamy and the cheese was quite generous considering the price.
Special baked spaghetti – IDR63,500++
The baked rice and spaghetti variations was exactly the same, with slightly more expensive prices on the baked spaghetti. The portion was also a lot bigger for the baked rice, even though the baked spaghetti already offered generous portions too.
Personally, I liked the spaghetti version better. It tastes more creamy and savory compared to the baked rice version which is slightly sweeter. Regardless, unless you try both versions side-by-side like I did, you won’t really spot the difference.
HK Stewed Beef Brisket & Wonton Noodle
It was very nice and savory, slightly too sweet for my taste but still good overall. The beef brisket was very tender and the noodle wasn’t overcooked.
HK Prawn Noodle
Surprisingly, their HK Prawn Noodle was pretty good. It seems they used Nissin noodle, but then the texture was just fine and good so I didn’t make such a fuss about it. The broth, however, was very thick, savory, and slightly spicy. Reminds me of Tom Yum noodle. Very nice!
Overall the food offered by HKC was quite good with generous portions. The spacious area can also accommodate anyone who wish to bring larger crowds.
Last but not least, I would like to congratulate my dearest friend who would be leaving very soon. I wish you the greatest success, you will always be part of our crazy little family. Do keep in touch, and god bless you always.
