Monolog is a long-standing cafe in Jakarta serving great homebrew coffee and all-day scrumptious breakfast. It has been able to withstand the continuously shifting trends in Jakarta.
Aside from their fine coffee roasters, they also offer a list of crowd-pleasing breakfast, brunch, and comfort food. One of my favorite food are desserts and brunch menus. After reading a lot of excellent reviews, I didn’t think twice to make a visit to Monolog.
Monolog is located in between the parking space at Plaza Senayan, where other fine restaurants are also lined up side-by-side and face-to-face with each other. It is decorated with a chic, European-style alleyway. Couples, families, and expatriates coming from diverse backgrounds came to enjoy the good food and ambiance.
Everything was detailed exactly to my liking, with details of antique toys and figurines, it was a very pleasant sight to behold.
Flat White – IDR34,000++
For beginners, you should definitely try their Flat White. You could definitely taste the coffee, but it was very soft and more milky than coffee.
Cappuccino – IDR34,000++
I loved the aroma of Monolog’s coffee. It was distinct yet not overpowering. It tastes smooth and the balance was just right. They have a slightly bitter aftertaste which is exactly to my liking.
I loovee the detail in their coffee cup! Simple and classic!
Croque madame Tartine – IDR98,000++
A classic brunch/breakfast choice, Croque madame tartine is a grilled chicken ham tartine served with monolog’s special salad topped with sunny-side-up eggs.
It was a very simple croque madame, but it’s definitely very appetizing. The bread was grilled to perfection, crispy and savory. There were generous ham topped with mozarella cheese. Yummy! The only thing I would change is the slightly overcooked sunny-side-up eggs.
Smoked Salmon, Poached Eggs & Potato Rosti – IDR90,000++
Another classic choice! Served with fresh avocado slices, sour cream, and roasted cherry tomatoes & capers, it’s a perfectly balanced breakfast/brunch menu.
The smoked salmon was a bit salty, giving the whole dish a very nice kick and balance as everything else served was rather bland. It’s very nice because none of the ingredients compete but compliment each other.
The potato rosti was also very nice and thick, crispy and savory. A bit too oily for my taste but it was still acceptable. I just hoped that I’d be able to see a runny egg yolk the next time I sliced through their poached eggs though..
Red Velvet Doughnut – IDR28,000++
It was my friend who really craved for this doughnut the minute we were seated inside. It doesn’t really peaked my interest because I thought it was a mere doughnut. Then I was proven wrong.
I loooovveeeeeddd their doughnut! It was dense but slightly airy. The cream cheese on top was generous and absolutely divine! Very well-balanced with a slight tangy & lemony flavor in the cream cheese. I am glad we finally made the decision to order this one!
I am a huge cheesecake lover so I really look forward to this dessert. I was rather disappointed especially after having my hopes high eating the red velvet doughnut. It wasn’t bad, but the cheesecake was not as soft and creamy as I hoped it would be. However, it was still a slice of cheesecake so I can’t bring myself to leave it uneaten.
Overall the food was delicious, the ambiance was nice, service was very friendly, and portion & price was just right. The coffee was nice and not that expensive too!
I would definitely come and try more of their brunch menu, or just grab a quick cup of coffee when I am around.
