D&K Cafe is a cafe with a very unique and cutesy concept. The interior is set to be like a chipmunk’s tree house!
The second floor has an even more prominent ‘chipmunk house’ feature!
Although dubbed as a ‘dessert cafe’, D&K cafe also offers a variety of savory appetizers and main course.
Yoghurt Blend (IDR29,000++)
This is a perfect substitute for milkshake! Just as good but healthier! I tried the mango yoghurt blend and my friends tried the strawberry yoghurt blend. For those who’d like something sweeter and tropical, the mango blend was very nice! It was a bit too sweet for some but it suit my taste perfectly!
The strawberry wasn’t bad too, it’s just that I expected more of the tangy strawberry taste instead of milky taste.
Green Tea Milkshake – IDR30,000++
The green tea milkshake looks so cute, served in a mini jar with a cutesy whipped cream and mint leaves on top.
Sadly, it really needs quite a few improvements. I can’t really taste/smell green tea in it. It is also not as thick as I imagined a milkshake would be.
Hot chocolate Marshmallow – IDR35,000++
Most of the hot chocolate served in Indonesia tastes more like chocolate milk then hot chocolate. Don’t worry because D&K serves the ULTIMATE hot chocolate!
I looovveee their hot chocolate. It was a bit too sweet because I think they use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate – a variety which would give more depth, fragrance, and a bit bitter. However, I still like it because it’s very thick and fragrant. Children would really love this!
It was a very nice cup of hot chocolate – priced fairly and looks stunning too!
Frappe Oreo – IDR29,000++
Looks very nice and appetizing isn’t it? Bits of Oreo blended inside gives a very addicting crunchy flavor. They add a bit of coffee which really blends nicely with the drink.
Special Mocktail – IDR36,000++
Though I didn’t get to try this one, I feel like it’s a very ‘post-worthy’ drink, a.k.a it looks FABULOUS!
Hong Kong Fishball Curry – IDR32,000++
Majority of people loves fish balls because it is simply good on itself. Well this one is no exception. However, it was as good as any other fish balls you can get on the nearby supermarket. It was dipped with curry sauce, the curry sauce doesn’t have a particularly strong curry flavor/smell, which may be good for those who doesn’t like strong curries.
Tiger Bread Roll – IDR42,000++
Both visual-wise and taste-wise, the Tiger bread roll tastes almost like the rolls you could find at a local bakery chain, except that this one is a bit more thick and dense. It wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t pay IDR42,000++ for this when I knew I could get it for just under IDR15,000 at the nearest bakery.
Gyudon – IDR50,000++
Their gyudon wasn’t bad, but wasn’t excellent either. It tends to be more sweet than savory. The gyudon itself was a bit hard, chewy and thickly sliced, but since I liked having all my food cooked at well done, I am used to having them a bit harder then usual.
What garnered my attention was the sunny-side-up egg! It was perfect! Not over or under cooked, still soft and wiggly but not too runny!
DK Chicken Karage – IDR38,000++
The Chicken Karage was a true super-star when it first came out mainly because there’s MOZARELLA on it (the current trend in J-town = everything with mozarella cheese!). Topped with chicken and rice with curry sauce at the bottom, it was quite nice and savory. I just thought that curry didn’t compliment well with the cheese.
The chicken karage was also too thinly sliced, we thought it was chicken skin at first! Nevertheless, it was still nice and crispy, not bad at all!
Mini Rainbow Burger – IDR58,000++
Homemade burger in 3 colors, each using dori, beef, and chicken, served with a side of french fries. I love the french fries! Although a bit too salty, it was very fragrant and flavorful! Tone down the saltiness a bit and you get perfect french fries!
The Homemade Bun was very nice, moist and dense, the patties wasn’t bad too. What’s more unique is because they use quail eggs inside, a very interesting ingredient indeed!
Molten Lava set – IDR35,000++
The molten lava was successful because thick runny chocolate lava runs from inside. The cooked brownie parts was chewy instead of soft and moist.
Crispy Waffle Ice Cream – IDR48,000++
The waffles was too thin and bland for my taste. It was a cute ensemble, but other than that, it was merely three scoops of ice cream on top of a few brownie slices.
The Joy of Party – IDR39,000++
Befitting to its name, this truly brings joy to our table! This was my favorite dessert from D&K cafe! Layered with vanilla ice cream, chocolate pudding, and Malaga ice cream on top, i was a very pleasant combination!
The ice cream was bountiful, I love their Malaga (though I’d prefer it to have a more stronger baileys/rum taste), and their chocolate pudding are so good – a perfect combination between pudding and pannacota!
Overall I thought D&K Cafe served a pleasant collection of both savory and sweet fares. It was priced fairly especially taking into account the location of the place. I would come back for ‘The Joy of Party for sure’!
