Samsara Indonesian Cuisine is a fairly newly established Indonesian restaurant with a chic, casual dining concept. I went there a couple weeks ago (yep, sorry for the late post peeps!) with a couple of my foodie friends and we’ve managed to taste A LOT of their menu items!
I was pleasantly surprised by how well this restaurant was decorated. It’s a chic restaurant with a light classic-colonial decoration. Very nice ambiance for a romantic dinner with your loved ones!
Tahu Telur Surabaya – IDR55,000++
I was craving for a delicious plate of Tahu Telur – basically it’s an omelette mixed with tofu, bean sprouts, scallion, and their special sweet peanut sauce. I really thought it’s one of the most beautiful tahu telur I’ve eaten so far. It was satisfactory taste wise, but a bit dry in sauce..
Dendeng Jemuran – IDR75,000++
A rather small portion of Indonesian-styled Beef Jerky. It’s quite flavorful and not as tough as your usual beef jerky, I just thought the portion is a bit too small..
Pangsit Panggang Udang Ronggeng – IDR65,000++
A very nicely plated pan-grilled chicken & shrimp dumplings (or ‘ravioli’ is what was described as in the menu). It’s not bad, the ratio of filling-to-skin is just right, and the filling wasn’t too soft nor too hard either.
Nasi Jagung Seruling Bambu – IDR85,000++
Anything labeled ‘Seruling Bambu’ in their menu has the cutest plating! It’s corn rice cooked in green bamboo, mixed with lumber jack tuna and other spices.
Not bad! The rice was nice and fluffy, very fragrant and rich in toppings!
Sop Buntut Jadoel – IDR110,000++
I don’t quite understand how tiny this Sop Buntut was (making it one of the most expensive and less worth it too)! Presentation wise, it was very cute, with the soup served separately in a glass jar. The soup broth was rich and flavorful though..
Getuk Gnocchi Ayam Bumbu Rujak & Foie Gras – IDR180,000++
Excluding the Foie Gras (I’ve never really liked it anyway, so I can’t give an objective review about it), I loved their cassave Gnocchi! It was so tender and melts in your mouth! The chicken was so soft and tender!
Nasi Bambu Samsara
A very cute presentation isn’t it? The rice was a bit dry at that time, but the chicken was TERRIFIC! I think they really serve nice chicken-based menus since everything was so tender and nicely marinated!
Bebek Bengil Ubud – IDR95,000++
I’ve long heard of their crispy Balinese Duck as one of their most recommended menu items, and I totally understand why! It’s so crispy and tender, not too oily either! I just thought they really need to gain more consistency in their cooking, because we ordered 2 batches of the Bebek Bengil (because it was so good the first time we tried it!), but sidly, the second batch doesn’t taste as good and crispy…
Nasi Goreng Iga Kambing Bakar – IDR98,000++
While the fried rice tastes mediocre, the Barbecued Lamb Ribs tastes delicious! I wish the eggs was more perfect and runny though!
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
This was a Bbeautiful, unique, and delicious Es Podeng! So artsy and creative! It’s like chocolate bomb where the chocolate shell melts away as you pour hot chocolate on top, revealing the ice and other traditional Es Podeng toppings inside! LOVED IT!
Durian Lover – IDR75,000++
As the name implies, this is for hardcore Durian lovers! Rolled crepe, traditional Indonesian coconut ice cream, lollipop, and cannoli, everything in Durian flavor!
Samsara Rujak Buah & Sorbet Kedondong – IDR55,000++
This looks cute but it isn’t the most appetizing (unfortunately). It’s a weird combination because it’s not sweet, not bland, but not sour either..
Tart Susu Teh Bunga Melati – IDR65,000++
I was looking forward to this floral-scented milk pie! It was nice and creamy, but it’s a bit too sweet, thus the floral scent was a bit overpowered.
Klaper Taart – IDR65,000++
My favorite dessert along with the Es Podeng! It was so creamy with a strong (yet not over powering) rum raisin taste! Nyummy!
Overall I thought that the food was not bad, coupled with the romantic ambiance, it really brings out a whole new experience. However, it is a bit too pricey considering the portion size.
