There’s a fairly new modern Thai restaurant in Kota Kasablanka, Jakarta. I’ve always thought that Thai food is a foreign cuisine that could easily match Indonesian population’s taste, because just like our cuisines, Thai food also uses a lot of rich spices.
It was Friday during lunch time, the whole place was jammed full with customers! The place was very nicely decorated, modern indoor garden style, with cute wall decor all around the corners. There’s also a smoking area in the outdoors.
Thai Tea/Thai Rose Tea – IDR25,000/IDR27,000++
Call me shallow, but I literally order these just for the sake of the drinks served with cute mini floaties! XD
Their thai tea wasn’t too bad, it was creamy but wasn’t as thick. The rose tea was the same, except that it’s (obviously) rose-scented. They use a kind of rose syrup that sits at the bottom of the glass. It’s a bit too sweet for my taste, so I waited till the ice melted a little bit before taking a sip 🙂
Soft Shell Crab Sandwhich – IDR60,000++
I saw a couple pictures of these in social media and I thought it’s a very unique presentation of mini bun sandwiches! It thought it was pretty delicious. The buns were soft and dense, yet still fresh and crispy on the outside. I thought there was too little soft shell crab but it was still good overall. Don’t forget to add their sweet and sour sauce because it really adds A LOT of flavor to this!
Prawn & Chicken Spring Rolls – IDR45,000++
Everyone knows that food stacked in a mini ladder is the most current trend right now, quite a number of menu choices at Santhai utilizes these mini ladders too!
I loved it! It’s such a perfect appetizer for share! It’s crispy on the outside, with just the right amount of filling on the inside. It’s very nice and savory!
Pad Thai (Seafood) – IDR60,000++
Every time I go to a Thai restaurant, I would most definitely order myself a serving of Pad Thai. I feel like it’s the ultimate Thai ‘signature’ food, and a lot of restaurant really portrays the flavors differently.
Their Pad Thai was more wet than the one I found in the other restaurants. It’s sweet and sour, but I don’t feel like it tastes like the authentic Pad Thai that I was looking for. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t just as I imagined it would be either.
Creamy Salted Egg Prawn – IDR75,000++
I was quite excited to try these, but it’s really not up to my expectations. It’s definitely ‘creamy’, but it’s too sweet to be called a ‘salted egg prawn’. The prawns were mid-sized and quite fresh though..
Kiasu Tofu – IDR60,000++
For anyone who understand Hokkien Language, just the name of this dish sounds so funny and intriguing.. Anyway, I ordered these because I was craving for a really nice tofu dish.
It was pretty good! It was well marinated, like sweet and sour tofu. The portion wasn’t too big so it was too bad it ran out fast! XD
Shrimp Paste Fried Rice – IDR55,000++
It’s a bit weird to order Indonesian-styled fried rice out of a Thai restaurant, but we did it anyway..
It was pretty good! It’s so pretty and colorful, not to mention they put in a LOT of different toppings in one serving! It’s a decent plate of fried rice overall, but I would really recommend you to try their other signature dish instead 🙂
Lod Chong – IDR35,000++
It’s not too sweet, but I think that it would be better if they put in thicker coconut milk to add more flavor and fragrant to the dessert.
Sticky Triple Rice – IDR45,000++
OMG this was DA BOMB! I really LOVED it! Such a masterpiece of a dessert! The coconut ice cream was very fragrant and creamy. The sticky rice has a very nice chewy texture!
Overall I thought that this was a decent modern Thai restaurant. Of course, if you want to get an authentic Thai dish, this might not e the place to go, but It’s a really nice restaurant with good ambiance. The prices were reasonable. It’s not too expensive for a restaurant such as these. The portions was small to medium-sized, so you might want to order more food if you have more people in your table!
