Bottlenose Coffee – PHX, Grogol, Jakarta

Bottlenose has been around for a few months now, but the hype was still ‘there’ so I visited the place with a number of my foodie friends just last week. It’s located in the 2nd floor, PHX, Grogol.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s definitely a very mini-spaced coffee shop that could probably just accommodate 15-20 people max, it’s not a surprise since Bottlenose is located in PHX, which consists of many shops inside container boxes.

Aside from the mostly affordable coffee (available starting IDR20,000 – IDR40,000++ only!), they also provide finger foods, breakfast/brunch menus, and a some main course as well.

Iced Latte – IDR35,000++

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Iced Latte – IDR35,000++

Despite its name, it was quite a strong iced latte. Their coffee has a rather sour aftertaste, the milk was light, and it became a bit more bland and thin due to the ice. I’d rather prefer bitter aftertaste, so it’s really up to your preferences whether or not you’d like it.

Brownies Affogato – IDR35,000++

For those craving dessert-like coffee, this one is definitely an option! I love that the brownies is hard and firm enough to withstand all the moist and liquids on top.

Salted Egg Chicken Bao – IDR41,000++

I’ve been craving for a really good salted egg dish for the last few days so I immediately jump in when there’s the ‘Salted Egg’ option!

It was sad because it doesn’t came out as I expected. The salted egg wasn’t too distinct and there’s too little chicken bites for the Bao. On a side note, the french fries was addicting!

London Fog Waffle (??)

I don’t remember the exact name of this menu but there’s ‘London’ into it. Their waffle was GORGEOUS and DELICIOUS! It was firm and crispy on the outside, yet thick, soft, and moist as you dig in deeper.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The candied peach wasn’t too sweet and not too soft from being soaked in sugar for too long. It has a very lovely earl grey fragrance too. MUST TRY!

Blueberry Cream Cheese Waffle – IDR36,000++

All their waffles were such a treat to the eyes! Sadly they can’t maintain the beautiful waffle texture & consistency as the London fog waffle above.

It took almost an hour for this waffle to came out. It’s still nice and moist, but the outside wasn’t as firm and crispy, making it easier to get soggy from the ice cream. The staff did say that they have some problem with the waffle mixture that’s why it took so long. Well it’s still delicious, just not as good as the latter 🙂

Overall I would say that the coffee wasn’t as suited to my taste due to its rather sour aftertaste, but it really depends on how you like your coffee. I would definitely come back for the waffles though, such a sight to behold with such beautiful flavors too!

The bottom layer is Pablo’s cheesetart and the top was layered with beautiful Pandan filling mixed with green mung beans (Kacang Hijau). The top layer was a bit too sweet but I guess it compliments the bottom layer original cheese tart which was more bland in taste.

Peach Frute – IDR60,000

This one can’t be considered as a new menu, but it’s said to be one of their favorite item at Pablo. Beware guys because it’s only available till end of August! If it turns out to have a good performance, they are thinking of making it a permanent menu item, so come and support this lovely drink!

It’s like peach milkshake, but it’s surprisingly mild yet fragrant. I thought that it would be very thick and sweet, but it turned out to be thick and ‘not too sweet’ – just right!

It’s a unique creation and I think it’s nice for Indonesian consumers who’s always keen on trying something new and unique. Come and get it FAST guys!

Chop Chop Resto – Greenville, Jakarta

Chop Chop Resto is a family-styled restaurant at Jl. Ratu Kemuning, West Jakarta. Their menu choices includes classic Chinese to Western fushion menus.

It was a very lightly decorated (nothing too fancy) and a mid-sized shop. However, its simplicity just brings out the cozy family-style feel into it.

Bakmi Chop Chop – IDR25,000++

Bakmi Chop Chop – IDR25,000++

An amazing looking Bakmi (Chinese Noodles) for only IDR25,000! They sur eput a LOT of toppings inside! It was a bit dry for me, but even so, it’s still very savory!

When it came out, it was so fragrant and colorful, I can’t wait for everyone to finish taking pictures and try the fried rice! It was very scrumptious – generous bits of (beef) bacon and right amount of vegetables. The rice wasn’t too hard or too wet, just perfect!

I initially thought that this was Capcay (‘Mixed Vegetables’), turned out it was Ifumie! Ifumie is a chinese dish where dried noodles are topped with a mixture of vegetables, chicken, or seafood in thick gravy.

I love there ifumie! It was very savory and they got a lot of vegetables on top! The noodles are not too thin or thick, and its not too dry and hard, so you still get this ‘Chinese al dente-style noodle’ after being mixed together. One of my favorite dish!

Lo mie Hokkien Seafood – IDR37,000++

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Lo Mie Hokkien Seafood – IDR37,000++

This is my favorite! Lo Mie is another variety of Chinese noodles. The egg noodles are thicker and soaked in water to give more texture. The flavors are perfectly blended together! What’s more, they use sesame oil which gives a pop of color in both flavor and smell! An absolutely must try dish!

Mie Udang Singapore – IDR41,000++

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Mie Udang Singapore – IDR41,000++

This dish really reminds me of Malaysian Penang noodles. The short ribs wasn’t bad, it was soft and flavorful. The soup was lighter especially compared to the other noodle dishes. It’s nice but it’s not particularly spectacular. I thought it was a bit too sweet and I expected a little more acidity into the dish.

Fettucini Carbonara Bacon – IDR38,000++

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Fettucini Carbonara Bacon – IDR38,000++

Looks beautiful, isn’t it? Sadly, this was the dish that I would ranked at the bottom of the pile. The Carbonara sauce was not enough to cover the pasta. Even if it did, it was too sweet and not ‘cheesy’ enough. A dish that needs a few improvements here and there.

Sirloin Steak – IDR85,000++

I didn’t expect that they could produce such beautiful and flavorful steaks! Even though it wasn’t cooked to my liking (more medium-rare than medium-well), the flavors are very nice. I am no steak expert, but I thought that it could really compare to local steak houses in Jakarta.

Overall I thought that Chop Chop Restaurant serves a really nice family-style food in a family-styled restaurant. To be honest, my initial prejudice cause me to lower my expectations about their food, but it turned out to be waaayy better than that! Most of their food was quite delicious, served in abundant portion and a very low price in my opinion. Definitely a nice alternative for having a quick family gathering!

D’Village Food Center – Tomang, Jakarta

D’Village Food Center is a food center that was opened not too long ago. Inspired by the scenery of a beautiful traditional Indonesian village (complete with straw huts), D’Village Food Center provides such pleasing atmosphere and a scenery while enjoying food with your loved ones.

20161030184734_small20161030184744_small20161030184858_small

As expected from its decor, D’Village Food Center features various traditional Indonesian food from many Indonesian regions. So even when some people in your group doesn’t like a particular food, they have plenty of food choices to eat. It’s almost like a mini foodcourt with its own mini garden.

Soto Bening/Santan

Soto is a traditional Indonesian soup by using broth, meat and vegetables. You can choose to have a clear broth Soto or another version using coconut milk. In my opinion both are quite nice and flavorful. The one with the coconut milk is quite thick and heavy. Some of my foodie friends said that it needs a much more savory kick, but I think it worked just fine on its own.

Panada – IDR6,000

Panada is a traditional Manado fried tuna-stuffed bread/pastry. The size was quite big and the tuna inside was well-marinated giving it a very savory and flavorful piece of Panada.

I love the colorful presentation of these noodles. Even though I ate it dry with no broth, it was still very savory and flavorful. The noodle’s aren’t over/under cooked and it’s very fragrant as well!

Nasi Uduk komplit – IDR30,000++

20161030184724_small

Nasi Uduk is another Indonesian-styled steamed rice cooked with coconut milk, making it much more fragrant and flavorful than your normal white rice. The taste here was just ‘okay’ in my opinion. You could taste and smell the coconut milk from the rice, but it wasn’t too distinct and not as fluffy as I’d like them to be. The chicken was also slightly too hard, I guess it was a bit over cooked.

Nasi Goreng (fried rice) – IDR25,000++

The fried rice was not bad. It’s nice and savory. The most important component of a nice fried rice is the rice itself – it shouldn’t be too wet that it sticks together, but not too dry and hard as well. I thought the rice was cooked well, but then it was still not the best fried rice.

Songsui – IDR25,000++

Songsui? What is that? Yep, today is the first for me too.. Turn out Songsui is a traditional soup dish from Bangka region. It’s traditionally served using pork broth, fried pork skin, innards of a pork, and pork itself. However, since I can’t eat any kind of innards, I choose the meat-only songsui.

I’ve never had Songsui before so I am not a good judge of Songsui. However, As a first-time eater, it tastes pretty good! In fact, it’s one of my most favorite dish here! It’s very fragrant and savory. You got  the soft texture from the meat and eggs, and a bit crunchy texture from the pork skin. What’s more, the eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking. Loved it!

Overall it’s a pleasant experience dining at D’village. You feel like eating on your own garden. My only suggestion would be to add more air-conditioning system since it gets a bit warm when everyone gather and eat the piping hot food. Price wise, it was very much pocket-friendly, especially considering the location of the place.
