I went to Mars Kitchen a couple weeks ago with my fellow foodies. Mars Kitchen is known for their healthy take on modern Asian-Western culinary twist. One of Indonesia’s famous chef – Chef Rinrin Marinka is the pioneer of this restaurant.
Located in Fatmawati, South Jakarta, the dining area was quite small and secluded. Yet it was homey and cozy at the same time too.
We tried a number of their juices. It tastes like home-made juice. The plus point is that t doesn’t smell all too ‘leafy’.. XD
Matcha Latte – IDR30,000++ / Hot Chocolate – IDR30,000++
The hot chocolate doesn’t really taste like hot chocolate, but rather more like chocolate milk. It’s alright, but it wasn’t what I expected..
Baked (Black) Rice
It’s one of our primary goals of visiting this place. It’s made out of organic black rice wrapped with banana leaves, packed with organic chicken, cashew nuts, mushroom, and a number of other nyummy healthy ingredients!
It’s not bad despite being ‘healthy’. It’s quite fragrant but the rice is it too dry for me. Overall it’s still a nice combination though..
Chicken Burger – IDR72,000++
Despite it’s sky-high price, I actually quite like it! It’s kind of a hit-or-miss dish since the chicken was so lean, some might like chicken meat with more fats and juice.
The chicken was very lean but I feel like its well-marinated nevertheless.. They use sweet potato fries too!
It’s a bit too dry and the pesto wasn’t strong enough in my opinion. Some people who like subtle pesto taste might like it though..
Aglio Olio – IDR65,000++
It was a bit weird because strangely enough, it tastes like your local instant noodle – Indomie! Also, it’s too salty..
Nasi Goreng – IDR62,000++
One of my favorite dish at Mars Kitchen! It’s somehow unexpected coming from a restaurant like this, but their fried rice has a very nice texture and consistency! It’s very nice and savory too! My only complaint is how expensive the price was for a simple plate of fried rice.
Soba Salad – IDR55,000++
It’ a very unique dish indeed! It’s one of my favorite since it combines Japanese and Indonesian taste so beautifully! It’s Japanese buckwheat noodle with smoked salmon and special peanut sauce dressing that have this reaallyy nice sesame fragrance! nyuumm!
Chocolate Caramel Cake – IDR40,000++
Very nice and moist, not too sweet either, yet I can’t really find the ‘wow’ factor in this dessert..
Chia Hempseed Choco Brownies – IDR25,000++
Overall Mars kitchen offers pleasant comfort food, promising good quality and healthy ingredients too. The food was ‘okay’ in my opinion, but I wouldn’t go so crazy about it either. Worth the try if you are around the area.
Samsara Indonesian Cuisine is a fairly newly established Indonesian restaurant with a chic, casual dining concept. I went there a couple weeks ago (yep, sorry for the late post peeps!) with a couple of my foodie friends and we’ve managed to taste A LOT of their menu items!
I was pleasantly surprised by how well this restaurant was decorated. It’s a chic restaurant with a light classic-colonial decoration. Very nice ambiance for a romantic dinner with your loved ones!
Tahu Telur Surabaya – IDR55,000++
I was craving for a delicious plate of Tahu Telur – basically it’s an omelette mixed with tofu, bean sprouts, scallion, and their special sweet peanut sauce. I really thought it’s one of the most beautiful tahu telur I’ve eaten so far. It was satisfactory taste wise, but a bit dry in sauce..
Dendeng Jemuran – IDR75,000++
A rather small portion of Indonesian-styled Beef Jerky. It’s quite flavorful and not as tough as your usual beef jerky, I just thought the portion is a bit too small..
Pangsit Panggang Udang Ronggeng – IDR65,000++
A very nicely plated pan-grilled chicken & shrimp dumplings (or ‘ravioli’ is what was described as in the menu). It’s not bad, the ratio of filling-to-skin is just right, and the filling wasn’t too soft nor too hard either.
Nasi Jagung Seruling Bambu – IDR85,000++
Anything labeled ‘Seruling Bambu’ in their menu has the cutest plating! It’s corn rice cooked in green bamboo, mixed with lumber jack tuna and other spices.
Not bad! The rice was nice and fluffy, very fragrant and rich in toppings!
Sop Buntut Jadoel – IDR110,000++
I don’t quite understand how tiny this Sop Buntut was (making it one of the most expensive and less worth it too)! Presentation wise, it was very cute, with the soup served separately in a glass jar. The soup broth was rich and flavorful though..
Excluding the Foie Gras (I’ve never really liked it anyway, so I can’t give an objective review about it), I loved their cassave Gnocchi! It was so tender and melts in your mouth! The chicken was so soft and tender!
Nasi Bambu Samsara
A very cute presentation isn’t it? The rice was a bit dry at that time, but the chicken was TERRIFIC! I think they really serve nice chicken-based menus since everything was so tender and nicely marinated!
Bebek Bengil Ubud – IDR95,000++
I’ve long heard of their crispy Balinese Duck as one of their most recommended menu items, and I totally understand why! It’s so crispy and tender, not too oily either! I just thought they really need to gain more consistency in their cooking, because we ordered 2 batches of the Bebek Bengil (because it was so good the first time we tried it!), but sidly, the second batch doesn’t taste as good and crispy…
Nasi Goreng Iga Kambing Bakar – IDR98,000++
While the fried rice tastes mediocre, the Barbecued Lamb Ribs tastes delicious! I wish the eggs was more perfect and runny though!
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
This was a Bbeautiful, unique, and delicious Es Podeng! So artsy and creative! It’s like chocolate bomb where the chocolate shell melts away as you pour hot chocolate on top, revealing the ice and other traditional Es Podeng toppings inside! LOVED IT!
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
Es Poedeng – IDR55,000++
Durian Lover – IDR75,000++
As the name implies, this is for hardcore Durian lovers! Rolled crepe, traditional Indonesian coconut ice cream, lollipop, and cannoli, everything in Durian flavor!
Samsara Rujak Buah & Sorbet Kedondong – IDR55,000++
This looks cute but it isn’t the most appetizing (unfortunately). It’s a weird combination because it’s not sweet, not bland, but not sour either..
Tart Susu Teh Bunga Melati – IDR65,000++
I was looking forward to this floral-scented milk pie! It was nice and creamy, but it’s a bit too sweet, thus the floral scent was a bit overpowered.
Klaper Taart – IDR65,000++
My favorite dessert along with the Es Podeng! It was so creamy with a strong (yet not over powering) rum raisin taste! Nyummy!
Overall I thought that the food was not bad, coupled with the romantic ambiance, it really brings out a whole new experience. However, it is a bit too pricey considering the portion size.
Basque is a Spanish Tapas Restaurant & Bar. It’s been quite sometime since I’ve heard of Basque serving some really good food, so I decided to come and visit with my family.
I didn’t think that the place was THAT spacious. The space in front was made to be a bar with really long standing tables, while the ones towards the inner side of the area is reserved for the dining area.
Spanish Baked Eggs
I absolutely adore brunch food, so I can’t stand being a brunch-loving foodie while not trying one of these classic Spanish brunch breakfast menu!
It’s basically baked eggs simmered in tomato-based sauce with toppings (they use sausages). Despite being delicious, I expected the eggs to be more soft and runny. No problem though because it still taste good! The tomato sauce really tasted like it’s made 100% out of homemade tomato puree. I loved it since it tasted healthy without being overly so. The sauce was not too sour nor too sweet, and despite its name, I thought the tomatoes wasn’t too overpowering as well!
The portion size for the bake eggs wasn’t too small nor too big. I think it’s just perfect for someone who came in feeling half-full!
Criss Cut Fries – IDR35,000++ (Side Dish)
Really firm yet soft fries they have here. It’s very well marinated and savory! LOVED IT!
Pollo A La Brasa – IDR95,000++
To put it simply, it’s grilled chicken. They only serve 1 piece of chicken breasts (so the portion size wasn’t as big) but it was very nice and tender. The chicken skin on the outside was so crispy and savory!
Pork Chop A La Brasa – IDR140,000++
This one is charcoal grilled pork chops. I absolutely love it! It wasn’t sliced too thick nor too thin, and they give quite a large serving in overall. It’s very soft, tender and well marinated. The meat was also quite lean!
Petit Sale Carbonara – IDR85,000++
Their Carbonara sauce was more thin than thick, but it was very delicious and cheesy!
It’s a very simple dish with not much garnish, but I really love the taste.
Cheesecake A’l Orange – IDR60,000++
You should absolutely try this one! The cheesecake was very creamy but it’s not nauseating due to the refreshing orange taste.
I love how beautifully crafted all their desserts were!
Parque De Pannacota – IDR50,000++
This one has a very simple yet unique and beautiful presentation! It was presented on a wide-eared bowl, and covered spinach sable.
It’s like a beautiful colourful grass at first. The pannacotta has the most perfect soft and milky/creamy texture. The sable wasn’t too thick nor too thin, not too hard nor too fragile. I could also taste a slight mint flavour which really adds a refreshing touch to it.
Overall the food was very nice. Portion size was just right for one person, and the service was superb! Staff was very friendly and it doesn’t took too long for the food to come out despite it during the busy hours.
Noble House Building, Lantai 8, Jl. Mega Kuningan Barat, Kuningan, Jakarta
Rock Paper Scissors is a fairly recent modern Japanase Bistro located in The East tower, Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta. The smoking area space was very nice and pleasant, especially during the day when perfect lighting shone through the glass ceiling.
We came during lunch time and at least one-third of our requested menu items were out. It was too bad because I really look forward to trying some of those items.
I thought their coffee wasn’t bad. It has a slight bitter aftertaste that slowly melts away in your mouth, just the way I like it!
Mango Passion Fruit Tea – IDR25,000++
The waiter recommend this drink for us (the one with the orange-colored beverage drink above) so we ordered it. It was good! It’s very refreshing, sweet yet not too sweet, with a light touch of tangy sour taste!
Kara-age Don – IDR79,000++
As its name implies, it’s a simple chicken Karaage rice bowl. It was a bit overpriced for this kind of dish, but taste wise, it was pretty good! The Karaage was so crisp on the outside yet very tender and lean on the inside. It’s not oozing out much oil as its fried to golden brown perfection!
They use plain white rice on the bottom so you should savor each bite of karaage in order not to leave you with plain white rice towards the end!
Hayashi Rice Doria – IDR95,000++
Japanese beef rice with Mozzarella cheese. It was pretty good! The rice wasn’t plain rice as the one used in the Kara-age Don, it’s very fragrant and soft! Too bad there wasn’t much beef, but the savory mozzarella cheese and perfect poached eggs compensates it well.
Butter Cake w/ Miso Glazed – IDR50,000++
Yep, it’s literally glazed with MISO! I didn’t really dig into this dessert, it tastes weird because the Miso was too overpowering that it’s too salty. As a butter cake, I expect the cake to be moist, dense, soft, and buttery, but on the contrary, it was a bit hard and dry. If you leave it for long, it became too dry and a bit crumbly too. Well, on the bright side, they do give you quite a large portion of the cake.
Ricotta Hot Cakes – IDR95,000++
I really recommend this dessert!!! Please beware that they LITERALLY need 45 minutes of cooking time + 15 minutes of plating time = 1 HOUR PREPARATION time for this dish, so I suggest you come and immediately ask the waiter to prepare it so that its ready when you finish your meal.
It was SUPERB! It’s still piping hot, very soft and moist yet a bit chewy at the same time. It’s not too sweet and it’s refreshing from the berries compote. It’s HUGE as well, you could share it with 3-4 person as a dessert! (If you want to eat it whole as a brucnh menu, I guarantee you’ll feel quite full afterwards!)
Overall I really thought the food wasn’t bad, but it doesn’t really lived up to its price either. The ambiance was nice in the Smoking Area only, so if you wish to get nice ambiance and good lighting but disliked cigarette smell, you better hoped no one is smoking in the area. I would highly recommend the Ricotta Hotcakes if you come here!
The East, Lantai Ground, Jl. Lingkar Mega Kuningan, Kuningan, Jakarta
I was in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area seeking some nice place to have lunch and found Bienvenue Bistro Terrasse. It has a rather classy emblem, and I was pleasantly surprised when I open the door and entered the restaurant.
I love the design setting of the place. It really struck me as the classic modern version of the Beauty and the Beast Castle. The hue and color theme was also my favorite color – Dark Blue!
The waiter was very kind and friendly, he seemed very knowledgeable regarding all of their menu items as well. Their menu consists of both western and Asian fusion food.
Carbonara Pates – IDR75,000++
The Carbonara Pasta has much sauce, but the sauce was too watery instead of being thick and creamy. It wasn’t that bad though, it’s just not your conventional Carbonara Pasta found in other restaurants.
Spicy Capellini Pasta – IDR80,000++
The waiter suggests that this was one of their favorite item in the Pasta section so I decided to order these. It came with a very beautiful classic plating!
Capellini Pasta is a very thin variety of Italian pasta. I kind of liked the texture as it easily pops in your mouth with every bite. It has a very distinct ebi/prawn fragrant, almost a bit to salty but still addictive. No worries because it’s not too spicy!
Spicy Stewed Pork w/ Butter Rice – IDR180,000++
I think it was one of the most expensive item on the menu, so I was really looking forward to it, but it doesn’t came out just as I expected.
It’s supposed to be an 8-hours long slow cooked pork ribs, so I really expect a tender and fragrant ribs on my table, but it was a bit hard and dry, there’s not much meat in the ribs too. The butter rice wasn’t as fragrant and buttery too, and it’s a bit dry and hard.
Roasted Half Baby Chicken – IDR80,000++
The portion is quite small, it’s definitely a very small baby chicken cooked there, but it tastes delicious and well marinated. The mashed potatoes was a bit bland but it was still alright.
Panna Cotta – IDR45,000++
It’s a very nice Panna Cotta indeed! I personally loved it plain without the raspberry sauce, but if you prefer it to be sweeter, you could eat it with the sauce. It’s very soft and has that ‘just right’ gelatin/gooey/soft classic Panna Cotta texture.
Overall I thought the food was just ‘okay’, I personally loved the ambiance and the service (the waiter was so friendly and they could explain the menu items in detail – down to describing its tastes!). I think the setting is perfect for occasions like bridal shower!
Ruko The Metro, Blok 6 No. KU, Jl. Mandara Permai VII, Pantai Indah Kapuk, Jakarta
I was invited by Doubletree Hotel by Hilton & Zomato team yesterday for some hotel tour and Ramadhan special menu at their Theme restaurant – Sea Grain Restaurant and Bar.
We were divided into 2 groups, where one group experienced All You Can Eat Buffet dining at OPEN Restaurant, and the other experienced Fine dining at Sea Grain Restaurant. Coincidentally, I got the Sea Grain Restaurant team.
A brief overview for OPEN restaurant, they have a special Ramadhan street-food menu which will vary everyday (except for the Durian corner!). It’s located right beside the beautiful lagoon-styled swimming pool (Yep, you get to experience AYCE Buffet dining in the outdoor areas too!).
For customers dining in the restaurant, or guests staying at the hotel, they also have Kids’ club! Foodies with small children will have no worries if their children will get bored! The Kids’ club is open from 8 AM – 8 PM.
Now onto the Sea Grain Restaurant dining area. It’s styled to be a more refined and private fine dining area. They also have several private dining spaces.
Sea Grain Restaurant is Doubletree’s Mediterranean-themed Fine Dining Restaurant. They used to open only during dinner hours, but now they are also open during lunch time. FYI, they have business lunch hours package menu where you’ll get appetizers, main course, dessert, and ice tea/mineral water for only IDR108,000++!
Let’s cut into the chase and start our RAMADHAN SPECIALS menu at Sea Grain Restaurant, shall we?
Sea Grain Restaurant offers Family Style Fine Dining set menu for IDR388,000++/Pax (Minimum 5 Pax). At these prices you’ll get ALL of the following items (beliave me, it’s A LOT!):
Main Course – Baked Grouper Fish Fillet Gremolate Sauce, Grilled Lamb Chop Herb Crush, Aromatic Fried Rice, & Seafood Fettuccini
Dessert – Kunefe, Fresh Fruits
Beverage – Coffee or Tea
A LOT, isn’t it? You are sure to stuff yourselves full right after this meal!
Tajil – Assorted Dates & Biji Salak
Nyumm, although I do not celebrate Ramadhan, I always loved the Ramadhan season due to the abundance of sweet Dates!
Their Biji Salak (Indonesian Sweet Potato Dumpling) was delicious! The soup was thick and has a distinctive coconut milk flavor!
Starter – Caprese
It’s a simple Italian Salad with fresh tomatoes, green basil, and buffalo cheese. Despite its simplicity, I love their buffalo cheese because it’s not as ‘stinky’ as I thought it would be.
Starter – Selection Antipasti
I seriously thought it was sauteed beef at first but it turned out to be capsicum and sun-dried tomatoes! I thought the tomatoes would be dry and too sweet, but it turned out to retain its juiciness from within!
Starter – Garden Salad
It’s a simple Green salad, but I love the refreshing and slightly sour flavors.
Starter – Prawn Mango Salad
This was the STAR of our Starters! FYI, usually the portion comes with 3 huge prawns, but for this menu tasting session, they gave us more than 3 prawns in one serving.
The prawn was HUGE and fresh! It still has this addictive crunchy (fresh) prawn texture and it’s very well marinated!
Soup – Minestrone Soup
It comes with assorted bread rolls too. The minestrone soup really taste fresh from tomato puree. It really depends on your tastes, since I like vegetables, I really like this soup since it’s not too sour and not too sweet. Yet, some may dislike it due to its quite distinct tomato flavors.
Main Course – Baked Grouper Fish Fillet Gremolata Sauce
It’s a bit too oily for my taste, but I love how it tasted. It’s very soft yet not overly cooked, so that it easily crumbles when you cut it.
Main Course – Grilled Lamb Chop herb Crush
I rarely eat Lamb because if not cooked properly, it will have this awful smell. Yet this was cooked to perfection! It’s very fragrant and you could easily cut and chew without breaking a sweat!
Main Course – Aromatic Fried Rice
The Aromatic Fried Rice tasted like Briyani rice. The rice grains separates easily between each grains. I feel like it’s a bit too bland and scarce in toppings for ‘fried rice’, but it’s nice if you want to eat it with the accompaniment of the other main course. I guess they make it a bit bland so that stronger tastes will not contradict with the other dishes.
Main Course – Seafood Fettuccini
Their pasta has a very nice Al dente texture. It has a distinct seafood fragrant without being overly salty. Don’t forget the huge and fresh tasty prawns!
This wasn’t in the Ramadhan set menu, but the chef was generous enough to let us sample these. It was DELICIOUS and each chicken piece was HUGE! I like it because the chicken was grilled until its crisp and fragrant, it’s well marinated, yet it has a very lean meat without being too oily.
Dessert – Kunefe
As a huge dessert addict, I really regret that I didn’t get to try their dessert because I have to leave early due to some other appointment. I googled and it’s a Turkish dessert where cheese pastry is soaked in sweet, sugar-based syrup.
Overall I thought that the food served was nice and delicious. I thought that due to its ‘fine dining’ label, they would have small portion sizes, but it turned out they have quite a large variety of food served and you are sure to leave stuffed full with delicious food!
DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta Diponegoro, Jl Pegangsaan Timur No. 17, Cikini, Jakarta
Bottlenose has been around for a few months now, but the hype was still ‘there’ so I visited the place with a number of my foodie friends just last week. It’s located in the 2nd floor, PHX, Grogol.
It’s definitely a very mini-spaced coffee shop that could probably just accommodate 15-20 people max, it’s not a surprise since Bottlenose is located in PHX, which consists of many shops inside container boxes.
Aside from the mostly affordable coffee (available starting IDR20,000 – IDR40,000++ only!), they also provide finger foods, breakfast/brunch menus, and a some main course as well.
Iced Latte – IDR35,000++
Despite its name, it was quite a strong iced latte. Their coffee has a rather sour aftertaste, the milk was light, and it became a bit more bland and thin due to the ice. I’d rather prefer bitter aftertaste, so it’s really up to your preferences whether or not you’d like it.
Brownies Affogato – IDR35,000++
For those craving dessert-like coffee, this one is definitely an option! I love that the brownies is hard and firm enough to withstand all the moist and liquids on top.
Salted Egg Chicken Bao – IDR41,000++
I’ve been craving for a really good salted egg dish for the last few days so I immediately jump in when there’s the ‘Salted Egg’ option!
It was sad because it doesn’t came out as I expected. The salted egg wasn’t too distinct and there’s too little chicken bites for the Bao. On a side note, the french fries was addicting!
London Fog Waffle (??)
I don’t remember the exact name of this menu but there’s ‘London’ into it. Their waffle was GORGEOUS and DELICIOUS! It was firm and crispy on the outside, yet thick, soft, and moist as you dig in deeper.
The candied peach wasn’t too sweet and not too soft from being soaked in sugar for too long. It has a very lovely earl grey fragrance too. MUST TRY!
Blueberry Cream Cheese Waffle – IDR36,000++
All their waffles were such a treat to the eyes! Sadly they can’t maintain the beautiful waffle texture & consistency as the London fog waffle above.
It took almost an hour for this waffle to came out. It’s still nice and moist, but the outside wasn’t as firm and crispy, making it easier to get soggy from the ice cream. The staff did say that they have some problem with the waffle mixture that’s why it took so long. Well it’s still delicious, just not as good as the latter 🙂
Overall I would say that the coffee wasn’t as suited to my taste due to its rather sour aftertaste, but it really depends on how you like your coffee. I would definitely come back for the waffles though, such a sight to behold with such beautiful flavors too!
Pablo fan you’re in for some really HOT news! They’re launching a new special Ramadhan edition PANDAN CHEESETARTS!
This is exclusive for INDONESIA ONLY during this fasting month! Come grab it fast!
The bottom layer is Pablo’s cheesetart and the top was layered with beautiful Pandan filling mixed with green mung beans (Kacang Hijau). The top layer was a bit too sweet but I guess it compliments the bottom layer original cheese tart which was more bland in taste.
Peach Frute – IDR60,000
This one can’t be considered as a new menu, but it’s said to be one of their favorite item at Pablo. Beware guys because it’s only available till end of August! If it turns out to have a good performance, they are thinking of making it a permanent menu item, so come and support this lovely drink!
It’s like peach milkshake, but it’s surprisingly mild yet fragrant. I thought that it would be very thick and sweet, but it turned out to be thick and ‘not too sweet’ – just right!
It’s a unique creation and I think it’s nice for Indonesian consumers who’s always keen on trying something new and unique. Come and get it FAST guys!
I recently met one of my foodie friends and they told me that there is this fairly new Italian restaurant owned by an Italian and it was pretty good. I am a huge fan of Italian food so I immediately went there and visit.
It was simple yet minimalistic, just like a homey Italian restaurant. The second floor has more room (and better lighting) than the first floor, so I opt to dine there.
I really got a very nice first impression from this restaurant – even their complimentary bread was DELICIOUS! There was about 3-4 different varieties of freshly baked bread in that basket, I absolutely LOVE the cube & dense ones – it’s so thick, moist, fragrant and flavorful!
Petto di pollo ala Diavola – IDR85,000++
To put it simply, it’s grilled organic chicken breast with vegetables at the sides. I love the simple and clean presentation. The chicken already have all the bones removed so it’s easier to eat. They gave you such a large piece too, I thought it would smell a bit but it turned out to be nice and fresh!
If anyone is on a diet, this menu is most suitable for them! It’s tasty yet not too oily. It’s well marinated and seeps to the thickest part of the chicken too!
Gnocchi al quattro Formaggi – IDR70,000++
Definitely one of the best Gnocchi I’ve had so far! They have a very nice chewy texture, a very nice mixture you get from potatoes and not from adding to much flour.
The toasted walnuts on top really brings out the fragrant and flavor. They also put the right amount of cream – not too much and not too scarce, just right!
Tagliatelle con Pollo fungi e crema – IDR75,000++
These are spinach fettuccine with grilled chicken and creamy mushrooms. They have quite a generous amount of cubed grilled chicken, and it’s all lean meat without sacrificing the taste nor texture.
I’d love it better if it’s more creamy with more sauce, but it’s still just as good. What I like about the food here is that they could make it nice and tasty but not too oily. I see that the bits of chicken in the dishes I order were always lean and cooked with not as much oil as your usual restaurant.
Salciccia e Funghi – IDR70,000++
Thin pizza weren’t exactly to my taste, but this one was quite nice because the crust wasn’t as thin and they put quite a generous amount of cheese topping on top!
The owner was so nice as he suddenly gave us complimentary desserts on the house! I don’t know if they really sell these in assorted sampling portions, but it was all delicious! The creme brulee was nice and creamy but not too milky!
This one is like layers of different chocolate paste. I love that it’s soft and creamy yet not too heavy. It’s milky but not too sweet!
Overall I am satisfied with the food and service (friendly, knowledgeable staff with short waiting time)! The price was mid-high considering the location, but I thought the quality compensates it well. The portion was quite generous too! Definitely a go-to must try Italian restaurant if you’re in the area!
The Icon, Business Park Blok D/9, Jl. Raya Cisauk Lapan, Serpong, Tangerang
I was looking for a nice Ramen place when I came across Seirock-Ya with quite a lot of positive reviews and high rating. Since it’s near my house anyway, I immediately came over the restaurant to have a FEAST!
When it came, it was so fragrant and tempting! The broth was so thick and savory, even my family claimed that it was one of the nicest Ramen they’ve ever tasted!
Tsukemen with Eggs – IDR71,000++
You get 1 free refill for this one, probably because the soup stock was so strong and thick. What makes it different is that the soup stock is also served in a different bowl, you’re supposed to dip the noodles to the soup before eating.
This one is pretty good too! They have a much thicker soup with stronger taste from fish sauce. I liked the original Ramen (Toripaitan version) better but it doesn’t make this one any less delicious!
Seirock-Ya Special Gyoza – IDR27,000++
Don’t forget to try their yummy nummy Gyoza while waiting for your food to come!
Oyako Don – IDR47,000++
It’s basically rice bowl topped with chicken & eggs. I love the rice texture which was soft and fluffy, the chicken & egg topping was quite generous. Most of the Oyako Don I’ve tried tend to be a bit bland and soft in taste, and this one is like that too. The only difference is that I found their Oyako Don to be slightly more fragrant than the ones I found in other places.
Overall I totally understand why they were claimed as one of the best Ramen in town. They do have very thick and flavorful soup, and the noodle texture was just right – not too soft nor too hard, not too fluffy nor too thick either. I really recommend this place if you are craving for some really good Ramen!
AEON Mall, Lantai 3, Ramen Village, Jl. BSD Raya Utama, Serpong, Tangerang
It’s a not-so-new brunch spot at Pantai Indah Kapuk area. I’ve heard a lot of good review for this place so I decided to visit them. It was awfully CROWDED! I was quite surprised because the place opened months ago and they still haven’t lost their shine, must be quite something eh..? 😉
The space was quite large too, considering it’s located in PIK area – where most of the cafe/restaurants were subjected to relatively smaller areas. I loved the simple decor and the perfect lighting during the day time – great for taking pictures!
Flat White – IDR35,000++
Absolutely adore their coffee! It has a slightly bitter aftertaste (just to my liking!) that slowly melts in your mouth!
Croissants – Ranging from +/- IDR30,000ish
Social affair is mostly famous for their great croissants, so I decided that I shall taste one of those tasty-looking croissants then and there!
The croissant was DELICIOUS! Without a doubt they really do live up to their name! It was so crispy and flaky, not to mention that the filling inside was just right – not too little and not too much. Loved it!!
I am in the mood for salted egg so I ordered this one. This is made to be sweet salted egg croissant, not the savory ones. It’s very nice and fragrant, the salted egg wasn’t too overpowering so it might be too light for those hardcore salted egg fans.
I am an avid hardcore cheese mania, so how could I resist not trying these babies with cheese filling?? Well it was nice but a bit too milky despite the name it bears. Still lovely though!
Cheese Bomb Beef Burger
I didn’t intent to order any main course since I just had my lunch that time, but I can’t resist myself when I heard its name. I am NOT disappointed! It was DA BOMB!
They use Choux pastry-like bun on top with cheese lava filling that gorgeously oozes outside when you slice it open. The patty was heavenly, the beef wasn’t too fatty and it doesn’t have this weird smell from beefs that isn’t cooked properly. The portion was HUGE too! An absolutely unique and delicious dish!
Overall I am quite satisfied with the food served at Social Affair. Considering the number of crowd inside, it’s not as comfortable to hang around too long since some people is queuing for the table. The prices was a bit high too, but it was well compensated with the relatively large portion sizes (and it’s located in PIK, remember?). Recommended place nevertheless!
Ruko Garden House, Blok B No. 17-18A, Pantai Indah Kapuk, Jakarta 14470
I recently saw one of my foodie friend posted something from Tore Tore, since I’ve been eyeing to visit the restaurant from a few weeks back myself, I immediately come and visit.
It was a two-storey building, not too much space, but it’s pleasantly decorated. The food came out fast too! Oh there’s one catch that really lures me into this place – for a minimum purchase of IDR200,000 you’ll be able to purchase fresh salmon sashimi for only IDR10,000! Who would resist THAT?!
The moment we came, the waitress serves us some complimentary appetizers. It’s made out of tuna pieces mixed with fresh cucumbers and what I think is mayonnaise. My mom was an absolute anti-tuna person, but she actually loved it! She said it’s fresh and doesn’t have this annoying and irritating fishy smell!
Cawan mushi – IDR35,000++
My all time favorite and ‘not-to-be-missed’ Japanese appetizers! I loved that their Cawan Mushi wasn’t too eggy, nor too runny, they’ve got a lot of filling inside too!
Tori Zosui (Chicken Porridge) – IDR32,000++
I love porridge, so I really want to try what Japanese porridge (with such a fancy name – ‘Zosui’ too!) tastes like. It was WORTH IT! I can’t believe for only IDR32,000++, you get THAT much porridge (serves 3 people for me – we ordered other menus too) and they have SO MUCH filling and topping inside! Even porridge from Taw*n was often priced similarly (cheaper, but similar), but the topping wasn’t as much.
This was a definite like for me! So savory and the porridge wasn’t to watery nor too thick either. I can tell it’s nutritious too because they add a lot of toppings inside!
Chicken Teriyaki (???)
I honestly forgot what this dish was named, because it’s on their lunch special so it’s not on their regular menu book. It’s served only during lunch period and the price was only around IDR40k to IDR50k-ish. I thought this was ‘mediocre’, it wasn’t bad though, but there’s just too little chicken for so much rice.
Teriyaki to Tempura – IDR99,000++
It’s a Bento with lots of different food components inside. You get Miso soup as a side too! The Tempura was nice, and I really looveed the Chicken Teriyaki. I think it was deep fried first before being marinated and sauteed with teriyaki sauce, because the outside texture was crispy and so fragrant!
Yaki Udon – IDR68,000++
I’ve never really liked Udon, but this was definitely the BEST one I’ve ever tasted! I didn’t expect it to came out tasting like that. I thought that it would be like your typical Udon that is a bit more bland in taste, but it turned out to be so rich in flavor – sweet and sour, with a spicy kick!
Not to mention they got a LOT of toppings and the portion was HUGE! This is a definite MUST TRY item guys – NOT to be missed!
Overall I was really satisfied with the food and service (short waiting time!) at Tore Tore. My mom can’t stand raw Japanese Sashimi, but my Dad is an omnivore who loved sashimi, so it was quite hard for me to find a Japanese restaurant that caters to such opposites. This restaurant provides quite a lot of Sashimi, Sushi, and Nigiri (even though I didn’t order them) choices while not leaving out the cooked main dish too!
Definitely a Must Try Japanese restaurant at Gading Serpong!
